Perfect Your Hard Cap Wig Making Skills on the Intermediate Course

Updated: Jul 26, 2019

You've got the basics down - hackling and layering a few hard cap wigs - and are now ready to perfect your technique.

You might be interested in mastering a new hairstyle or making wigs out of different materials (foam, polystyrene spheres, netted buns); no goal is too high at the Big Wigs Workshop.

Taught over five days or up to two weeks (for more intensive training), the Intermediate Course is designed to develop your hard cap wig making skills.

Sound like the next step in your creative journey? We'd love to be a part of it.

Here's a closer look at the kind of hard cap experience and business advice you'll gain by joining the Intermediate Workshop.

This course is for wigmakers who have either completed the Beginner Course or have experience sculpting hard caps with hair and glue.

There's no set amount of practice you need to have had because each course is tailored to match your skill level. So if you feel like you've got hackling down but want to get better at layering, the workshop will provide all the tools and one-on-one guidance you need to perfect your layering technique.

What you would like to spend time on - and how much time - is up to you. All we need to design a bespoke itinerary is your wig-making wishes. The schedule, lasting from five days to two weeks, will then be organised to fit your needs.

From sculpting big, full-bodied wigs to styling caps with fringe, ponytails and buns, the Intermediate Course covers a range of hard cap techniques and hairstyles.

One of the skills you will learn, for instance, is how to create a double hairline (front and back). This highly sought-after craft will give your wigs that flawless, professional look.

The workshop will be led by hard cap wig specialist and instructor, Lauren Hobbs. With years of experience designing theatrical, mannequin and drag wigs for clients, she will guide you step-by-step through not only the creation process, but also the business side of wig making.

That means you will come away from the course with the technical skillset and practical know-how to make hard cap wigs for your own clientele.

In addition to the above, here's a snapshot of what to expect:

On the creative side:

  • Refining the push-up technique

  • Styling short, long and cropped wigs

  • Hair sculpting with different materials

On the business side:

  • Writing a business plan

  • Working to a client brief

  • Networking and growing contacts

  • Advertising and promoting your skills

A detailed materials list will be given to all participants of the workshop.

It's purchased separately from the course and is yours to keep at the end of the class. Think of it as the ultimate cheat sheet for creating hard cap wigs - pure gold!

If an Intermediate Course is not already scheduled to come to your city, then the Big Wigs Workshop will travel to you.

All we need to put on a course is the location and time frame convenient for you (nowhere is too near or far). The materials and space will be provided unless you have a space of your own in mind (we are flexible).
